What is reading clinic?
Each grade level has a block of time set asode where students may receive additional reading support based on a particular area of need. After each round of reading screenings and/or assessments have been completed and analyzed, the students are grouped according to similar needs. Those who participate in a reading clinic group may receive 30-60 minutes of specifically designed reading instruction in an attempt to meet their specific needs more fully. This instruction occurs in addition to the regular classroom reading instruction that would already take place. Clinic instruction remains responsive to the needs demonstrated within a particular group and progress is very closely monitored. All teachers who work with a particular grade meet a few times a month to discuss the progress that students have demonstrated and how best to tailor instruction to continue to meet those students' needs.. Placements in groups remain fluid so that anyone may shift to a new group or exit completely when ready.
