Hello! My name is Mrs. Danielle Eshleman and I am a reading specialist as well as the primary literacy coach at Park Elementary School. I coordinate reading services for all of the Kindergarten through second grade students in the building. In addition, I am the Curriculum Leader for Primary Literacy for the district. Most of my day is spent working with small groups of students to help them strengthen various literacy skills and strategies. I also go into classrooms to work with teachers during literacy instruction.
I began my undergraduate studies at Penn State University and later received my degree from Millersville University in 1996. In 2003, I earned a Master's degree in Reading and Language Arts as well as my Reading Specialist Certification from Millersville University. I continue to study and accumulate post-graduate course work as it relates to reading and literacy instruction.
This year marks the start of my 18th year teaching in Columbia!! I cannot believe that it has been that long already! I began here at Park School as a first grade teacher for a few years and then moved to Taylor Elementary and taught third grade for seven years. In 2003, I completed my Masters coursework and my Reading Specialist certification. In 2005, I left the classroom to work as a reading specialist and have been working in that capacity ever since. Though my job and it's responsibilities continue to change a bit each year, I love the challenge of diagnosing reading difficulties and working to tailor instruction to meet individual student needs.
I look forward to working with our students and staff at Park Elementary School each day. Please contact me if you would like to know more about your K-2 child's literacy development or how to best help him or her.
Best Wishes,
Mrs. Eshleman
